will endeavour through the Education & Prevention Programmes to facilitate people in the area, 
to remain free from the misuse of drugs 
And that those people who are misusing drugs be given every opportunity and support, 
to make informed decisions in relation to their drug use,
 (and) to access treatment 
to become drug free."

 

History

The Hartstown / Huntstown Community Drugs Team was formed in November 1998 as a result of the establishment of a local Drug Task Force in the area who identified a need for a Drug Eduction and Prevention services for the Hartstown / Huntstown area.

Objectivities

The main objective of the Hartstown / Huntstown Community Drugs Team is to ensure that as many people as possible in the area remain drug free through education and prevention and that those involved in using drugs are given every opportunity and support to reduce the risks involved in their drug use, reduce their drug use, access treatment and pursue a drug free lifestyle.

Main aims of the project

  • To provide information, support and advice to the people of Hartstown/Huntstown in drug related issues.
  • To support and provide prevention programmes theough both formal and non-formal education to highlight the affects of substance misuse at a local level.
  • To identify target groups at risk of drug use and to respond to them and their families needs.
  • To support and faciliate drug users in the area who wish to access treatment and rehabiliatation and afford them the opportunity to do so.
  • To liaise amd network locally and nationally on issues that effect the Hartstown / Huntstown area in relation to drug and substance misuse.

H/H CDT Target Group

  • People in varying stages of drug misuse-current, recovering, relapsed and recovered.
  • The mothers , fathers, wards, children, siblings, partners, neighbours and friends of the aforementioned drug misusers.
  • Children - via school and summer programmes.
  • The community! Through education and prevention programmes and by linking them into communitity agencies.
